Mini Beach Retreat Weekend

I figure it’s past time to get serious about this rough draft of Demons Forever! I’ve been spending more time thinking about it than actually working on it, which in a way IS working on it, but I know that now it’s time to get some words on paper and test how this final book is coming along. Especially since I’m determined to have it published before the baby comes in June.

On the other hand, focusing on the story while there is so much going on in my personal life has been a struggle. I need to get away. Somewhere I can just clear my head and feel completely unplugged for the weekend. My amazing husband suggested the beach! It’s definitely worked for me before, so why not??

Very excitedly, I booked an oceanfront room for us at a resort hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC for the weekend. Just a few days away from the responsibilities of the house, but with minimal distractions. All I’m taking is my laptop, my plotting materials, my series bible, and my iPod. Okay, and a bathing suit for the indoor pool, hehe. My plan is to set my desk up where I can get a clear view of the ocean. I don’t know why, but hearing the waves crash against the shore always inspires me, no matter what kind of story I’m writing.

We might also take a detour trip to the Ripley’s Aquarium, but only if I hit my word count goal. If you know me, you know I love zoos and aquariums (we even got engaged at the zoo remember?), so I can’t be that close to one and NOT go, right?? So exciting! And good motivation to hit my goals!

So good friends, I am unplugging for the weekend. Wish me luck! At the top of this post, I’ve put a customized word meter with my weekend goal of 12,000 words. Right now in the rough draft, I’m at just over 8,000 words, so after this weekend, I should be 20,000+ words into the rough draft and feeling some good momentum. Come on beach, do your magic!

    1. Thanks Deborah! Ooh, the Honolulu zoo? That sounds awesome! Did they have anything exotic there you wouldn’t find at most zoos?
