Help Me (Re)Name My Hero!

So, I have a tiny little issue with the New Adult Contemporary Romance that I’m working on. All along since I’ve been planning this book, the hero was named Lucas. I never really thought about whether that name had been used before, but suddenly it just occurred to me that duh! the hero in Easy is named Lucas! I adored that book, so maybe it was one reason that name kept coming to mind.

Now, I realize of course that it’s impossible to try to always use names that haven’t been used before. On the other hand, Easy is one of the best and most popular NA Contemp Romances out there, and I don’t want to seem like a copycat. So my hero needs a new name!! And I want you to help me figure it out. ๐Ÿ™‚ What better way than a giveaway/contest, right??

I still have Peachville High Demons t-shirts and swag packs to give away, so I’m offering up one of each to the winner of this contest. I’m not going to choose by who names the character. Instead, I’m going to just give everyone 4 chances to enter and then choose a winner randomly from the group. For your entries, I’d love for you to (1) Vote on my chosen possible names and tell me which one you like best from those (2) Leave a blog post comment with your favorite name choice that wasn’t on the list in choice 1 (3) Tweet about the giveaway so others can enter and (4) Like my Facebook Page!

#1 is mandatory in order to unlock the other entries!

The contest will go from now until Friday at Noon EST and is open internationally. I will email the winner Friday afternoon and ask you to send me your mailing address and tshirt size. Please remember that I am OUT of XL shirts, so I only have Small, Medium and Large available. If you are chosen and none of those sizes fit, I will instead send a prize pack and a $10 gift card to the ebook store of your choice (Amazon, B&N, Kobo, iTunes, etc).

And just so you can get a better idea of what the book is about, here is the description (WITH the name Lucas since I haven’t picked a new one yet, ha!):

One night can change everything…

Two years ago, Leigh Anne Davis shocked everyone in tiny Fairhope, Georgia when she broke up with her wealthy boyfriend to attend an Ivy League university a thousand miles away. At school, she finds a happiness and independence she’s never known.

Until one terrifying night takes it all away from her.

With no place else to go, Leigh Anne heads home to reclaim her old life. A life she worked so hard to escape. On the outside, she seems like the same girl everyone has always known. But deep inside, she’s hiding a terrible secret.

That’s when she meets Lucas Young, a troubled newcomer to Fairhope. His eyes have the same haunted look she sees every day in the mirror, and when she’s near him, the rest of the world fades away. But being with Lucas would mean disappointing everyone all over again. If she wants to save what’s left of her old life, she has no choice but to say goodbye to him forever.

Only, the trouble with goodbye is that sometimes it’s about courage and sometimes it’s about fear. And sometimes you’re too broken to know the difference until it’s too late.

Add this book to your goodreads to-read shelf!

  1. I liked Ethan, But Lucas does ring a better bell in my head =( At least for this type, Lucas seems like an outcaster kind of name

  2. I voted for Ethan, but I think maybe a Caleb or something of that nature could work too.

    1. Dade Elijah and Ronan Tobias are great names, but I’m probably biased because those are my kids names (different, but not weird).

I love the name Brody for a fictional lead character.
      Brody James.
      Xander Riley.

But out of your selected names, I’m a fan of Ethan. Colton would be a good one too.

  3. I voted for Connor. Ethan is the name of the hunky vampire in Chicagoland and if you are trying to stay away from other character names its out.

A few other names to consider: Cameron, Landon, Logan, Duncan, Wesley

  4. I like Ethan, but that was the male lead in Beautiful Creatures which is pretty big right now. How about Reece, Gavin or Elijah?

  5. In your own writing you say that “troubled newcomer”. That to me means he is not like your main character’s previous boyfriend who you identified as “wealthy”. Therefore you need a name that has more edge and masculinity to it. So my contribution would be something like; Reno, Knox or Blade. A name that brings to the readers mind someone that is beautiful to look at however a little hard around the edges; and hard to read.

    1. Thank you for putting so much thought into this! I totally am loving Knox. It’s different without being too weird, and I think it would fit him. Thanks for the great suggestion!

      1. I’m glad I could help ๐Ÿ™‚ I live to read and I love your books ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t follow any other author besides you on facebook. I feel that is generally kind of creeper behavior however with you, you are real and I feel like you put the real your out there. So thanks for that!

        1. Aww, Gillian, that is incredibly sweet of you to say. It really means a lot to me, thank you!

  6. I voted but I think you need something just a little different, they seem very common so how about Cash Robert. But no matter what the names i know the story will turn out great.

    1. Thanks Crystal :). One of the characters in my next book, Death’s Awakening, is called Crash, so it might be too similar. Not that it necessarily matters, I guess. I do like Cash though.

  7. I picked Ethan because it just sounds like a good guys name… not marcus so much… that’s a name that lives on the edge… and i used connor in my book… and colton makes me think of a horse… hmmm… as for another suggestion… what about George… such an under used name and never really for a hero… unless i guess you think of curious george as a hero… which by mentioning that will probably not get it used… but still… all names deserve to be heroes…

    1. Hehe, George is my husband’s name, so I definitely love it. He’s my real-life romance here :).

      1. awww that’s awesome… would it ever bother you to use the name of someone you know… especially someone like your husband…

  8. I voted for a name, I plugged in each name in the teaser you gave to see what sounded and flowed the best. I think no matter what you go with the book is going to be amazing. Stick with your gut feeling on the name, we may all have our favorites, but this is your book (your baby) and in the end we are all going to love it anyways because you wrote it and we are all your fans. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I think Knox is great, different but not too crazy and seems like it would fit the character you are developing.

    1. Haha, Jon, I was reading through comments and got to yours and thought, “Wow, that person should be a writer.” And then I looked at the name and saw, hey, you ARE a writer! I do love the name Chance, that’s a good one, especially with that backstory.

  10. I like the name Colton. I’ve never heard it before and I think it has that mysterious creepy feeling you are going for!

  11. I voted for the name Ethan. I dont know why but i think that it fits the character, the name reminds me of an angel not completely good but not completely bad either. I also like the name Micheal or Damon, i think this names might just fit because of the mystery of the character and i honestly think that this named are mysterious and i love those names:) but it doesnt matter the name of the character but what you make of the characters name ad im sure you will make it amazing:))

  12. Hello

I love names so I have a load of them:
    Finn
    Noah
    Jake
    Sol
    Benedict
    Rory
    Rafe (Rayfff)
    Brennan
    Zach
    Caden
    Kade
    Cai
    Gabe
    Hope this helps xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  13. I can’t help but wonder…does the last name “Young” have significant meaning? If you are changing the first name, often times the last name will also need to be be changed just for the flow if nothing else. Personally, I voted for Ethan because it flowed best with “Young”…but if that too is up for an overhaul, I have other suggestions if you’re going for edgier. ๐Ÿ™‚ However, Lucian (a play on Lucas but different) would be my first choice.

    1. I’m not totally stuck on the last name Young. I just had liked the sound of Lucas Young. If I choose a different first name, I might have to brainstorm another last name to match it. I like Lucian, but to me that sounds foreign maybe? And this guy’s just a normal southern guy. I might use it for another book, though, because it’s unique and sexy :).

  14. I voted for Eathan but I really like the name Aiden. There’s also Andrew, Riley, or Garrett.

  15. i like the name Colton i also have a few names that i like and hope you will like aswell.
Glenn – i knew some one with this name
Lane – also knew someone with this name he was a good guy who was mysterious
Dustin – just like this name
Tripp – saw your hero was a suthern guy and ive known a few guys from the south with this name
Ocean – saw you wanted an unique name and i think this name is very unique as well as very cool
    I hope these help

  16. I love the choice u have for the new names I also like
    bret
    Cameron
    Dante
    Drew
    Kody

I could go on all day haha xx

  17. I now really like the name Blake… I think it sounds though and misterious…

    1. I voted for Connor, ’cause it reminds me of the terminator and I looooooove those movies… The 1st 2 and the 4th one ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. The names are good but none of them strike me as being amazing. Personally my favourite name for a guy is Jack. It is simple, realistic (not one of those names no one would ever have), and somehow oh so sexy ๐Ÿ˜‰ It also isn’t overused in books and there isn’t any massively well known NA novels that use that name ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. I like Conor but I think that’s also a really commen name how about something like Nash, or Avery maybe even Shane

  20. I like the name Hoyt or Tristan for your character. I couldn’t find the exact link to comment or enter so I’m leaving it here! Love your work!

  21. I like the name Cale, I know it’s a nickname short for Caleb but I’ve always liked the shortened version better.

  22. So ready for this new book, a name dosn’t matter so much. Colton is a hot name though ๐Ÿ˜‰ so that is my vote.

  23. Cooper, Winston, Grant, Justin, & River are some country boy names. Maybe one of these will fit?!

  24. I like your name choices! Feel free to use my name for a good girl or evil your book(s) if you ever cant decide on female names! ๐Ÿ˜› haha

  25. I voted for Connor on Facebook but I also would like to suggest the names Vance and Corey. It needs to be something memorable, but also able to slide around easily in the mind while reading. Can’t wait for the new book! =^.^=
