My Write-a-palooza Rewards!

I had a fun shopping day today at the Sanrio store in the Crabtree Valley Mall here in Raleigh! I spent almost exactly $84, lol, so there will be no HK collectipaks for me, but that’s okay. I’m super excited about what I bought!! Here’s a pic of my swag:

I bought one of the new Hello Kitty canvas tote bags. It’s big enough to put my netbook in and some folders and pens, but it also fits over my shoulder, which is nice. I also got that cute HK t-shirt, three buttons (that I’ll probably put on my shoulder straps on the new bag), a mini-notepad collection and a large spiral-bound notebook. Oh, and the little hello kitty head there in the middle next to the notepad is a glitter ring, haha. So cute! It’s funny how much a little HK gear can put a smile on my face!!

I have to give a shout-out to my amazing husband. You always support me and push me to keep writing. I don’t know how I got so lucky.

Meanwhile, more writing tonight with J.D. Robinson and Alexandria Jade! Can’t wait! Can I make it another 5,000 words tonight??

  1. Honestly, I totally agree with you. I think the average reader wouldn't even make a review regarding the word count and whether or not a book is a novella or a novel. There are so many different standards for word count nowadays that there isn't a wrong or right answer. I think it is all opinion based.

I struggled with this very issue with my first novel, worrying whether or not it could be considered a novel or novella. It was just around 48k.

It probably wouldn't make a difference either way if you decided to add the word count in your description, as the average reader probably wouldn't pay it any attention. I can't say that I personally have ever even taken a moment to look at the size of a book. But maybe that's just me. If it looks interesting to me I am going to read it no matter how long or short it is.

The best advice I can give you is to not change anything you've been doing.

I can imagine that seeing that review would definitely cause some tingling in your nerves, but don't let it make you doubt what you're doing. You are a great writer of NOVELS! Say it out loud girl, it will make you feel better.

Just consider that review irrelevant. Try to forget it as best you can, cause I don't think they know what they are talking about. :o)

  2. I've had reviewers complain that my books are "too short." Anathema is over 50K and Oubliette is closer to 55K. I even had one reviewer complain that Oubliette was significantly shorter than Anathema. It's NOT!

I think because Oubliette read faster than Anathema (much more action), she automatically assumed it was shorter. She was wrong – but I don't like to argue with reviewers. Ugh.

When they're reading an e-copy, pagination can be all over the place based on font size, etc. People don't realize they aren't looking at true page numbers.

Stick with what you do best. You know how much everyone loves your novels. πŸ™‚
