My 1st Story

Stories matter! Having a safe place to be creative and expand your mind and your inner world is incredibly important. NaNo WriMo (National Novel Writing Month) has been a very important part of my life – both in my writing journey and in my personal journey. I’ve met some of my best friends and written some of my most powerful stories during the month of November.

As part of their June fundraiser, The Office of Letters & Light (aka, the folks who run NaNo WriMo) has been asking authors to share their first stories. What was the first spark to your creative fire? When they emailed and asked me to participate, I jumped on it! If you’re a writer, I hope you’ll join in by posting to the hashtag #my1ststory on twitter and facebook to share your first story.

Here’s mine:

Are you really surprised Hello Kitty was involved? And yes, that’s the ACTUAL journal I used to write in. I briefly considered opening it up and posting pics of a few of the pages. Oh, the atrocious handwriting and the crazy thoughts that were going through my head! I can’t even bring myself to post a pic, it’s so ridiculous!!

But journaling was honestly the first spark to my creativity. It was the first place where I felt totally safe getting all of my emotions on the page. What was the first spark to your creative fire? What was the first story you remember writing?

WRITING MATTERS!!! Stories matter.

Consider donating to The Office of Letters & Light so they can continue their amazing work creating safe spaces for creative writing.
