Deep Dark Secrets Is An Athena Finalist!

Oh my gosh, you guys!!!! I just found out this morning that Deep Dark Secrets has been selected as a finalist for the Athena Award for Excellence in YA & NA Paranormal Fiction.

I honestly could not be more excited!

This book was the one I took the time to write last year when I was feeling so hopeless and lost. I was having such a tough time getting back to the joy of writing, and thanks to my truly loyal and devoted fans, I was given the freedom to play around with a new story. That was the greatest gift for me, as I was able to find my love and passion for writing all over again while working on this book.

Yes, there have been a few nasty reviews and messages from people who didn’t like that I started something new or that I wasn’t writing a Demons book, and honestly, I can’t blame anyone who was upset. I know many people were disappointed, but believe me when I say that no one was more disappointed than I was. I tried everything to get back to writing, but the words simply would not come. It broke my heart, and the handful of bad reviews broke my heart all over again. It’s never easy to hear someone say they are disappointed in you.

In the end, though, if I had not taken the time I needed to get back to writing with love, there wouldn’t have been any more Demons books in the first place. I will be eternally grateful to the true fans who stuck by my side while I put everything else aside to work on Deep Dark Secrets. It brought me back to life!

Writing Deep Dark Secrets brought the passion back into my life, which then allowed me to start working on Beyond The Darkness. It’s such an emotionally important book for me, and to see it being recognized is such an honor! This book was also in the Top 100 Indie Books of 2018 over at Read Freely, and the cover for Deep Dark Secrets won the Reader’s Choice Award for the JABBIC contest this year.

That makes Deep Dark Secrets by far my most award-winning book. I am so proud of this, and I’m so grateful for all the support around this book.

If you haven’t had a chance to read this one yet, you can find links to Deep Dark Secrets it here.

As for Books 2 and 3 of this trilogy? Well, I’m still in this finishing-out mode where I’m trying to complete all of my currently-running series. Yes, I got behind when things were tough, but now I’m working full time again and writing as much as I can without sacrificing quality. That means I’m working my way through all of my series in turn.

My most recent releases? I just completed the Sacrifice Me Series. If you haven’t read this Shadow Demons spin-off series featuring Rend and Franki, you can still pick up Season One for the sale price of $0.99. Season Two just recently released in Two parts. Find them here: Part One and Part Two.

Coming up:

Witch’s Mark (Book 7 in the Willow Harbor series, and my final book in the series) – Releasing July 2nd

Deceiving Darkness (Book 10 of the Shadow Demons Saga) – Most likely coming August 2018

Fate’s Surrender (Book 3 of the Eternal Sorrows Trilogy – also the final book in this series) – Releasing in October 2018.
——**If you haven’t started the Eternal Sorrows Trilogy, you can follow along as I release Book 1: Death’s Awakening for free over on Wattpad!

After Fate’s Surrender, I’ll either be writing Deep Dark Whispers (Book 2 of The Spiritwalkers Trilogy) or I’ll be working on another Shadow Demons Saga book. Part of that depends on how the Shadow Demons Saga is going and where I end up by the last few months of this year.

Long story short, my hope is to write and release Books 2 and 3 of The Spiritwalkers Trilogy back to back. If possible, I’ll try to get them out in December and January, but it will all depend on how long each book takes to write and how I’m feeling in terms of burnout! I’ll definitely keep you guys updated as I go along!

If you want to keep up with what books are coming out, how my writing is going, and other news, one of the best ways to do that is to join my private Facebook Group for fans. It’s called Sarra Cannon’s Coven, and we have an amazing community there! I also do live video chats from time-to-time that are super fun.

I hope you’ll join us! Be sure to answer the questions when prompted to join so that I know you’re a real person and not a spammer. 😛

Thanks again for sharing in my excitement about the Athena Contest. This contest is run by the YA chapter of RWA (Romance Writers of America), and the winners will be announced July 18th in Denver at the National Conference. I’ll keep you guys updated on the results, but even if I don’t win, I’m honestly thrilled to be a finalist!

Woohoooo!!!

  1. Excellent news, congratulations!
Never feel disappointed or let down by the bad reviews – every single product out there has a bad review or four. You can’t please everybody, all the time and if you hadn’t have taken the time to write Deep Dark Secrets 1) You may NEVER have managed to finish the SD series AND 2) You wouldn’t have the awards and noms you have received just from this one book. Those that complained, whilst others were understanding, will be more grateful than ever that you actually did take the time out because you came back with a bang! Much love, Jo x

    1. Thank you so much Jo! And I know you are right! I always wish I could make everyone happy, which probably comes from my upbringing, haha. But you are totally right. Thank you for that!

  2. Sarra please come to Michigan before August or Tennessee or surrounding those states. I love your books! I can’t wait for spirit walkers it’s my favorite of favs. I own all your books and want all in paperbacks though too.

    1. Thank you, Amber! I’m working on getting the paperbacks updated now. I’ve gotten about 5 done so far, and it’s a bit still to go, but I’m hoping to have them done this summer. <3 xoxo
