Yesterday was all about writing and today I want to talk to you about one of my biggest inspirations: gaming.

SARRA CANNON BOOK SPOTLIGHT

Today’s spotlight holds a very special place in my heart. When the pandemic started in 2020, I searched for a way to give back to the community, something to raise spirits during a difficult time that affected us globally. I decided to write a short story and read it live on YouTube simultaneously. I never expected The Witch’s Key to become a full-fledged novel (and a series, on top of that!), but I’m so glad that it did!

My plan currently is to start writing Book 2 of The Witch’s Key series in 2024, with a 2025 publication date. I intend on this being a trilogy, so Book 3 will hopefully be close behind.

My favourite thing to do in my spare time is go to the library and take out an exorbitant amount of books that I can’t possibly get through in the three weeks I have to borrow them, and then renew them 5 times before returning them I also love working on book ideas, photography, decorating my home and going on mini adventures with family and friends. I’ve been dying to try a game recommended by Peruse Project called Wytchwood, and the Hogwarts Legacy game on my switch! Loved playing games on it during the pandemic but since having my son, have kind of forgotten about it.

  30. I don’t have a lot of free time, so it is currently split between writing, cleaning, gaming, and reading. I only include cleaning there because I don’t have time for it in my normal weekday schedule, so it becomes a weekend chore which takes up all my free time. Hahaha

    I’m a gamer too! My absolute favorite game is Dying Light 1. I restart it as soon as I finish. I like Dying Light 2, as well, but not as much as 1. Right now I’m playing State of Decay 2 Juggernaut Edition. Some other favorites are Skyrim, Fallout 3, 4, & New Vegas, Call of Duty series, the Last of Us, and Bioshock series. I could go on forever about my games – lol!

  45. In my free time I love to unwind with a YouTube video (vlogs are my favorite and I rewatch your Nano playlists as if they are TV seasons!), read or even do paint by number! I have a special time of night reserved for Pokemon Go and scrolling on my phone and I love it!!!

  47. If I’m not getting out of the house my favorite things to do is watching tv (something scary if possible), reading, and just playing a game on my phone.

  48. My favorite thing to do is being home with my husband and dog watching Netflix or ready a good book. I get comfort in staying home reading on the couch. I usually read on my phone because I don’t have a kindle but I have physical books as well. I like collecting my favorite series in physical books just to have them so I can read them anytime.

  53. I have always been pretty bad at gaming…lol. The only one I am half decent at is Jurassic Park arcade game. My husband and I play together whenever we go to the family fun centers.

  56. In the summer, I love my pool. We just got a ATV side by side so we have been doing alot of riding. I love reading and listening to audio books/podcasts.

  60. I’ve been binging a lot of podcasts lately as I do stuff around my apartment. Two Girls One Ghost for my creepy fix and Writing with Coach McCoach for writing motivation. I started draft 3 yesterday! I’m so excited to keep working on my first book.

  61. In my free time I love to relax with a book, a seasonal hot or cold beverage, and some delta waves as ambiance, maybe a fireplace or cozy rain scene on the tv with the YouTube app.

  62. When I have free time, I play in my junk journals! I cut, glue, and write about my family, events or just how I’m feeling that day. If I’m feeling down, I write it out and paint over it so no one need see negatively if they read them in the future.

    1. Favorite thing to do in my free time – Youtube videos. If Bob is home, then my favorite thing to do is play cards/ yahtzee, triominoes with him.

  98. When I really have free time, I love having family game night. It is rare now since my kids are grown and everyone is off in their own direction. However, when we can make it happen, we play everything from cards to board games to video games from their childhood and teen years. It’s always a blast to have these moments.     I’ve been a gamer since I was 8 and grew up playing D&D and Atari games. My brother, who is 6 years older than me, has introduced me to so many games and gaming platforms! We, along with my boyfruend (now husband), have played EQ, EQ2, WoW, Dark Age of Camelot, Baldur’s Gate, Diablo City of Heroes, Star Wars: The Old Republic, the list could go on and on! And we met some amazing and lifelong friends while doing so.
    We now play Guild Wars 2 and have since their launch over 10 years ago. We also now play the game with my brother’s two sons, and they’re both better than we are!

  115. My most favorite thing to do in my free time is reading. I’m a lifelong reader and book lover. I have a home library of over 5000 books, and I host and manage several reading communities online. So yeah, books and reading. 🙂

  125. My brother and I played on an Atari and then the first iteration of the Nintendo. He continued his love of gaming and then shared that with my youngest brother during our youth. My bestie now is a gamer and she introduced me to some great books that feature online gaming as a part of the plot. The stream was great!

  127. I loved the story about how you met George! I used to watch my ex-husband game ages ago, but I’ve never been much of a gamer myself. My favorite free time activities are reading (I’m staring at a huge pile of library books as I write this–novels, cookbooks, plus research for my Nano novel), crochet, and spinning (making yarn).

  139. I’m a gaming enthusiast through and through! In my free time, I’m immersed in the Pokémon main series games, currently hooked on Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. The Nintendo Switch is my trusty sidekick, especially for some relaxing Animal Crossing sessions. When I’m on the move, I’m all about Pokémon Go.

    Interestingly, I had a gaming hiatus for years, thinking I’d outgrown it. However, in 2018, at the age of 42, I rediscovered my passion, all thanks to my kids and grandkids. Now, I can’t get enough of it, even squeezing in gaming breaks during work. It’s amazing how this hobby can bridge generations and keep us all entertained!

  149. My favourite things to do in my free time is, honestly, to read or write, they’re my two greatest hobbies. I used to be a member of a local archery club, but it’s too far for me to travel to anymore, so I can no longer get out there.

  159. Free time? Who’s she? Well, I read a lot, but I consider that a need. When I have time to do what I want that isn’t focused on the family, I love movies and spending time outside.

  160. The Witch’s Key live readings was a memorable time for me! I was working in the hospital during this stressful time and had just found out I was pregnant which was happy but also stressful since I was working closely with patients … the live readings were a bright spot in a dark time for and I appreciate that more than you can know.

  164. My favorite thing, honestly, is just reading. It’s been my favorite activity for as long as I can remember. Whenever I think back to what I did as a kid, I pretty must just remember reading.

  166. I like to read, watch anime (dubbed) play video games, and travel. I also enjoy baking and trying new recipes. I want to open a tarot cafe called the blind mage in the future with drinks and sweets as plays on the tarot cards. I lack confidence since I tried going the route of working at a bakery to improve my knowledge and weaknesses but one look at my cane and I get the door slam in my face.

  172. Depends on the day. Sometimes I want a quiet place to read, sometimes I need to grab the craft supplies and fuel my creativity, and other times I just want to lounge on the couch and binge watch something

  173. These days one of my favorite things with my spare time is hiking. It helps me have space to either think things through, or to just focus on what is in front of me one step at a time.

  174. It really does depend on how I’m feeling at any given moment, when I have free time, but I usually cycle between reading, or writing. With the occasional game (Skyrim) tossed in or otherwise I take off. I go out to a waterfall, or a river, or a field and just like exist, I guess you could call it an adventure even though I’m not really exploring all the time.

I caught the last 30 minutes of the Twitch stream and it was so fun that I re-activated my account just in case Sarra decides to stream again! 🙂 Apart from watching YouTube videos in my spare time, I also love chatting with my husband and my Texas-based bestie, reading cozy fiction, singing while strumming my ukulele, reading tarot and putting together digital jigsaw puzzles.

    I love to read, spend time with family, write, help minister to others and pray for them. I also like traveling, daydreaming, napping, eating delicious food, and when I was younger horseback riding. If I had it my way, every day would be spent outdoors as much as possible– swimming, hiking, exploring, horseback riding, foraging for delicious fruits. I also love bookstores and tea stores and anything near water! Oh, and singing!

  188. I love reading and listening to audiobooks, watching christmas movies round this time of the year and I love watching the Spooktacular with Sarra and the team.
    I also love getting to spend time with my grandchildren when I’m not working.
