I can remember that day so clearly!! I was nervous and excited. I had NO IDEA if anyone besides close family and friends would ever read this book, but I loved it and had such a blast writing it. My imagination was going wild with more ideas for Harper and her new friends. I was so proud of myself for taking this risky path of starting my own publishing company and getting this book into the world.

I never dreamed I’d be sitting here 13 years later with over a million copies of my books sold! It’s such a dream, and I want to say thank you for taking a chance on my books, for loving my characters, and for being a part of this community. I love you, and I appreciate you!

That’s what Spooktacular is all about. Me saying thank you to all of you who are here and supporting my books. I hope you’ve felt my joy and gratitude over these past two weeks!

I’ve been mentioning throughout Spooktacular that I have a very special guest joining me today. I COULD tell you who it is now, but I want you to be totally surprised, so my lips are sealed. This book will be the culmination of over a decade of hard work, and it’s an honor to be able to offer someone the opportunity to have a small piece of it all to themselves. You can have a character named after yourself, someone you know or love, or just any name you like (as long as I can legally use it and it’s appropriate for me to use, haha). This is so fun, and I’m excited for you all to enter!

    1. Invisible teleportation.
      They’d be able to be there, but unable to participate, unless they went visible – making them vulnerable.

      1. For a magical ability, I’d have to go with Truth, like Wonder Woman’s lasso. I’ve read too many stories involving deceit and betrayal, and if the main character could either sense lies or could compel people to tell the truth, it would make things a lot easier.

  36. I have been 5′ 3″ since I was 12 and I was always smaller than my peers so I think for a special power I’d like either the ability to stretch so I could be taller when needed or able to reach things up high, or telekinesis so I could move the objects I trying to reach with my mind.

    Currently writing my first fantasy novel, already 40 percent through the second draft. Hope to finish this year around Christmas.
    And – spoiler alert! – my main character is able to draw energy from her emotions and project it into objects. And these objects can then change physics based on the emotional mix and when they get new energy from a person touching them. So looking forward to publishing!

  93. Honestly I am so stuck on what magical ability I would give my character. I write more romance books than fantasy because I struggle with overthinking too much about magical powers. If I really had to pick just one then it would be to understand any language.

  98. My main character would have the ability to see aura colors of people’s powers. The stronger the color, the more powerful they are.

  99. Oh this is such a fun idea!! As for which magical ability … I love shapeshifters, but in the sense of taking on any appearance! (so kind of like the glamours in your series works!) I always love characters that take on another person’s identity for a while – and the suspense of getting caught 🙂
