True Crime Ghost Story – Day 12 | Spooktacular 2022

Who else loves True Crime? Any Murderinos in the Coven with me?

I’ve been a bit of an addict / fangirl for some true crime podcasts and TV shows over the years. My Favorite Murder, Crime Junkie, True Crime Garage. Season-Long mystery podcasts like Serial, Someone Knows Something, and Up and Vanished (which, by the way, was about a friend of mine from High School who disappeared without a trace more than a decade ago).

I realize it’s a bit morbid to love hearing about murders, but there’s something really interesting about trying to follow the mystery, figure out what happened to these poor victims, and it honestly just makes me remember how precious life is and how much we should value the people in our lives we love.

What I love, too, is when a good mystery meets something on the spooky, ghostly side of things. When true crime and paranormal meet, you’ve got me hooked.

No surprise that my next book is exactly that – The Disappearance of Vanessa Shaw is a standalone paranormal thriller I’ve been working on while trying to unlock some of the plot on Book 12 that’s got me stuck. I’m hoping to finish drafting that book in November, so be on the lookout for release news by the end of the year, if all goes well.

Today, I had planned to have a spooky True Crime Ghost Story video to share with you on YouTube, but sadly, my mid-event stomach flu left me without time and energy to get this recorded for you. Instead, I’ll share this in November and let you know ahead of time when you can expect it and meet me for a chat!

Watch today’s welcome video and then keep reading below for a look at my favorite podcasts, shows, and more when it comes to spooky stories and true crime. Also, make sure to enter the Scentsy giveaway. (Don’t forget to head back to Day 1 to enter the grand prize giveaway again before we choose our winner tomorrow! Last chance!!)

Okay, so some of my favorite true crime (non spooky) podcasts are:

My Favorite Murder

True Crime Garage

Crime Junkie

Someone Knows Something

Last Podcast on The Left

Casefile True Crime

The Fall Line

Serial

Dirty John (now a TV show, too, I think)

And TV Shows/Documentaries:

Inventing Anna (netflix, highly dramatized)

The Staircase (Netflix)

Making A Murderer (actually, I think all of the ones on this list are netflix.)

Unsolved Mysteries

Forensic Files (so many old ones to binge now on Netflix!)

**Side note: For my true crime friends, did you see there’s finally an arrest in the Delphi case??? Hallelujah! Justice for these sweet girls, please!

SPOOKY TRUE STORIES

Spooked (hands down favorite spooky stuff podcast ever. LOVE Glenn Washington)

Haunted Road

Anything Ghost Podcast

Lore

Shows:

Ghost Hunters (true or not? Probably some of both)

Ghost Adventures (so over-dramatized, it’s funny, but it’s also fun to watch)

The Dead Files

SPOOKY FICTION HONORABLE MENTION

The Black Tapes (This one is totally fiction, and it goes off into a weird space after the first season, but it’s pretty brilliant, and I reallllllly want to do something similar someday.)

Light House (I haven’t actually listened to this one yet, but it has been on my list as a fiction podcast to listen to!)

Tell me more in the comments!

  1. My favorite fall scent is the smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven with the crisp fresh smell of the air as it starts to turn cold. (It is really hard to pin down what cold air smells like, but living in Florida it has a different, more beautiful scent than the normal hot and humid air we suffer through the rest of the year.

  2. My husband is very sensitive to strong scents so I tend to go for lighter scents. I love vanilla, coffee or chocolate scented things (as it reminds me of being tucked under the covers with a nice book)

  3. I love clean crisp soft scents for the house (linen, spearmint, eucalyptus) and usually something seasonal for my office/writing room. Currently using a combo of cedar wood, frankincense, clove!

  4. This spooktacular has been so much fun, I can’t believe it’s almost over either!

For me, it’s not fall until I smell wet leaves decaying in the evening air. Sounds gross but when you step outside and are hit with a chilly breeze of leaf-smell, it’s like everything inside opens up. It’s not a scent I’ve ever seen sold, of course, so for candles I gravitate toward pumpkins and their spices. I like my home smelling warm and my backyard smelling cool and refreshed, haha!

  5. My favorite fall scent is cinnamon apple. I also love the smell of wood and leaves burning. When my husband burns leaves, I love the smell on him I am enjoying the spooktacular so much. You and your team have done a fantastic job. Hope you are feeling better.

  6. I love anything pumpkin, cinnamon, and apple in the fall! Iโ€™m a huge true crime junkie also- thank you for some new podcasts/shows to add to my list. Iโ€™m sorry you and your little were under the weather. Spooktacular has been fab! xo

  7. I hekkin LOVE Champagne Toast from Bath and Body Works. Itโ€™s a dreammmm!

Also, thank you SO MUCH for the link to Kellyโ€™s shop! I have been in NEEEEEEED of scentsy items!

  8. My favorite fall scent, without a doubt, is warm spiced cider. There is nothing more comforting than the smell of warm apples and cinnamon.

  9. Rain, Large fields that don’t sleep like grass cuttings but really good soil and any wax melt that isn’t overly strong or gives me headaches. I prefer to air out the room and then burn a wax melt it smells better. Also, I’m a big fan of True Crime Daily and Side Bar Daily along with many other True Crime Stories.

  10. lol i love anything that smells like trees as i used to have pine trees all over out yard then i moved to pa and it smelled like heaven outside !
